Courage

Courage

"The 1st step of being courageous is being willing to look foolish" James Clear.

Courage and fear go hand in hand. I don't think you can have one without the other.

What are we afraid of? James Clear, in his quote above, is the fear of looking foolish. That is our Ego talking. We know that doesn't end well. Then there is the fear of physical harm. That is always a possibility depending on the situation that you are faced with. Though on an everyday basis, we are more likely to be batting our Egos. There is a saying that the expectation of fear is worse than the actual act. Our imaginations make it so much worse than it really is.

So what separates those people with courage and those without. More importantly, how can one without courage obtain it? What actions need to be performed so that a once fearful person is now courageous.

Confidence is one thing that courageous people have. So how do I build confidence? One way is by taking small actions and...

Adulthood

“An adult is what people see on the outside, not who the person is on the inside” Joshua G Gold

Here are a few definitions of the word adult
noun
1.
a person who is fully grown or developed.

verb
INFORMAL

  1. behave in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially by accomplishing mundane but necessary tasks.

Then I noticed there are three stages of adulthood as follows:

(they added a 4th stage a few minutes ago:) )

The four stages of adulthood examined here include:

  • Early adulthood (ages 22–34).
  • Early Middle Age (ages 35–44).
  • Late Middle Age (ages 45–64).
  • Late adulthood (ages 65 and older).

What struck me as surprising with the 3 or 4 stages is that Early adulthood beings at 22 years old. So we are sending children who are not fully developed to fight our wars. To make decisions about someone else’s and their own lives. Doesn’t that strike you as reckless, if nothing else? We are allowing children to carry guns and drive a 2000 lb....

Simplicity and Life's Essentials

Uncategorized Oct 29, 2021

“ The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” Hans Hoffman painter.

I love this quote as well as Hans Hoffman’s work. As a young artist, I was privileged to see his work often. My father was the accountant for the gallery in NY that represented his estate. I was calmed by the simplicity of his work and the colors that he used. However, this has nothing to do with what the quote speaks to:). So let’s get back to that. :)

You could also look at this as an Essentialist would, as the ability to simplify means to eliminate the Nonessential so the Essential may appear.

I have been thinking about what is essential in our lives, how we establish them in all areas, including our business, jobs, relationships, and so on. To keep things as simple as possible I have broken it down to 3 Essentials. Functions, Goals, and Priorities.

How we get to those Essentials is the question that we need to answer...

Listening in Silence

Upon reflection of a conversation I had with a friend the other day, I started thinking about his story.  We all have our stories.  What brought us here to this particular place.  We're all here for a reason.

Somehow, strangely connected.  Finding value in that reason is the magic.

The lessons that can be learned from each interaction with another human being.  To capture those moments, you need to be present and slow things down.   If you move through life too quickly, you risk missing them.

Each and every one of those moments is a precious and unique opportunity.

What are you searching for in those moments? It's better to have absolutely no expectations and just accept them for what they are.

Moments, interactions with another human being.

Every interaction with another person doesn't have to be anything but a conversation.  It's incredible what you can learn about others from just listening.

Stoicism talks about not having to...

RAIN

Ideas falling from the sky

Cleaning and letting things be washed away, allowing new things to enter,

New possibilities

What are the ideas that I am supposed to catch?

Light rain — little ideas

Heavy rain — BIG ideas

Get me a big ass bucket,  it’s a hard rain gonna fall…..

Transformation, Is it important to you?

How significant is transformation in your life? Or maybe you think that it isn't transformation that you need at all.

Sometimes we use different words that mean the same thing, such as growth or, as I sometimes refer to changes in my life, as my metamorphosis. Either way, if none of these terms resonate with you, then no need to read any further.

There is a saying, " if you're not growing, you're dying." I think it's safe to say that it is the last thing any of us want!

You see, growing up in Brooklyn, NY, in the '60s and '70s, I was never given the tools to look at my life as I do now. My parents weren't growth-oriented. Or at least they weren't verbal or consciously aware of it. More than likely, they didn't know how to talk about it either. It wasn't a thing then.

As I grew up and started working, I never thought much about the future or my growth as an individual. I didn't know what I was doing was anything other than what I was doing.

During those earlier...

Live in the Moment

Live in the moment and do the best you can in each and every one

Love in the moment and love with all your heart for each and every person

Laugh in the moment when the alternative is to cry and be thankful for what you have, not what you've lost.

and

Rejoice in each moment as if it’s your last.

Priorities and more

Priorities

"Never let things that matter the least get in the way of things that matter the most," Jim Rohn.

Benjamin Hardy refers to this saying, "don't let lesser goals get in the way of the important ones." Brian Tracy speaks about Eating that Frog. They are all talking about the same thing. Do what matters the most first, even though it is the most difficult. The most challenging task is the thing that is going to contribute to 80-90% of your revenue or your production or whatever metric you are measured by.

I have been working on a concept of E3cubed. We have Essential Functions - The things that only we can do, Essential Goals - The three most important goals you have, and Essential Priorities. What are the three items or Frogs that you need to be eating now that will move your EG3 closer to completion? That's it. It's as simple as that. If you can get clear on those and act on those and only those, you will succeed.

Do I need to say more on the subject?...

I am grateful for...a different perspective

I am grateful for who I am
I am grateful for where I'm going
I am grateful for where I've been.

When we think of our lives, we usually think about the past, present, and future.

In this perspective, I was thinking about the present, future, and then the past.

Where I am today, where I want to go, and where I've been is how I think about my life and how I look at the way I structure my thinking. Whether it's about a course I am developing or a book that I am writing.

What's the significance of that, and is there any difference in the way we approach things?

If we look at the traditional way of looking at things, we are putting the past first. What effect does this have on how you might frame your thoughts, behaviors, and personality. How are our lives affected by thinking this way? We might give the past more weight than it deserves. We also could keep revisiting the same things over and over again. It might be a less efficient or effective process of dealing...

Take Your Life Back

"You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish.

I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be.

It's their mistake, not my failing." Physicist Richard Feynman, on dealing with expectations.

I know that you have heard this before. It's all about the stories that other people tell us. Other people's expectations of who we ought to be to the point we think we are supposed to be. We want to please those people, so we spend years trying to be that person. Just to wake up one day trying to figure out how I got here, feeling trapped and not knowing what to do next. If you are lucky, you are finding this out early enough in your life that you don't have the responsibilities of other people, like a wife and children, a mortgage, and car payments. College education to look forward to. You get the picture. Don't get me wrong; I am not saying that should deter you from what you want to do or who you want to be. It...
