Your Circle of Significance

YOUR CIRCLE OF SIGNIFICANCE

What is the effect of your significance?

On yourself? On those you love? On your business? On strangers, you meet? At that dinner party that you are at?

How deep is your circle of significance? What exactly does that mean and does it matter…..to you? These are all questions that I ask myself and my clients. The circle of significance and the circle of influence are two very different circles. They come from very different places. The distinction is where it originates.

Your circle of significance comes from your heart and soul. It comes from a deep place that only a few people can enter. As opposed to your circle of influence might come from a good place. A place that you might call your heart. Though I would challenge that it is a different part of your heart. Not as intimate and one that you wish to grow with as many people that you can.

This missive focuses on the Circle of Significance. A vulnerable place to be. How many people's lives are you truly significant in? I am not talking on a superficial level. I am talking about that deep understanding and soulful connection that your heart would hurt if absent or gone.

Significance is one of the 6 Human Needs that Tony Robbins refers to. There isn't a human need for Influence. That in and of itself should say something about the difference, the depth of its importance in one's life.

I started writing this missive and left it for a while. Now that I am rereading it 5 weeks into Social distancing and stay at home orders it seems to me that it is even more relevant. At least you have the time to give it some thought.

Who is significant in your life and whose lives are you significant in? Maybe it’s time to take an inventory and see. Is there something that you want to change? Are you not as significant as you thought? Or has the realization that you are more significant than you ever thought you were. Humility will do that.

I realize that this is a time for leadership and for you to be that driving force. That force that keeps your troops, team, or family in a good place. However, it is an intimate time as well with those whose lives you are significant in. It is a time that you lean on each other, a time that you are vulnerable and strong at the same time. It’s a time to laugh and cry and to see the sunrise every day. Knowing that tomorrow will come and those that are significant in your life will be better for that.

Stay safe and make smart decisions!
