The Cost of Starting or Not…part deux

The cost of starting that conversation or not…

We can all imagine the cost of not starting difficult conversations. Though what about those conversations that you just discount because you don’t think they are important enough? Only to find out how important they actually were.

What happens when we avoid difficult conversations? When we bury our head in the sand and think that’s the solution? It just rears its ugly head once again, and when it does it is a much more painful conversation to have. The fear of difficult conversations is usually much worse than the conversations themselves. The stories that we tell ourselves are what stops us from having them. Whether it’s a conversation with a loved one and your fear they won’t love you anymore. Or that they won’t react the way you want them to. These are both possibilities but also opportunities for growth. I know that it is hard to see it through that lens, especially when you are in it. Though one thing I know for sure that obstacles are opportunities for growth. So instead of fearing them, welcome them with open arms. They offer us so much when we deal with them head-on.

The cost of starting that new habit or not… I read something this morning about the Ego does not like uncertainty. Starting a new habit or not. Life is full of uncertainty and change. By starting that new habit which, I imagine would be for the better and get you closer to achieving your goal is risky. The uncertainty of whether or not you are going to fail. Then what?

You have established that if you develop this habit and take action you will get the results you want. That is true. So now what? Try again. If it is something that you really desire, and it is truly important to you then find another way. What triggers do you need to implement so that you can develop that habit? Don’t give up so easily. Developing new habits are not easy to do otherwise you would have done it a while ago.

There is the saying “when is the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. When is the next best time? NOW."

Whatever you have been putting off for whatever reason. Now is the best time to JUST START IT!
